PROFESSORS, ADJUNCT PROFESSORS, AND OFFICERS OF
ADMINISTRATION

1 The following tables give the departments of instruction for which
provision is made in the University at the present time (July, 1906),
and in each department the list of the officers of professorial rank
who have given instruction in subjects within the field of the depart-
ment as at present organized, from the foundation of King's College
in 1754. Under each department the names are arranged in chrono-
logical order as far as possible. In the classification, which up to 1857
has necessarily been somewhat arbitrary, Belles Lettres has been
identified with English, Natural History with Botany and Zoology,
Natural Law, and Natural and Revealed Religion with Philosophy,
Natural Philosophy with Physics. Subjects offered only incidentally
are not included. The exact title of each professor and the date of
his appointment and its duration will be found in the alphabetical
list of officers (see pp. 28 to 67) . In the case of professors in the College
of Physicians and Surgeons, Barnard College, Teachers College, and
the College of Pharmacy, the record includes only those appointments
in effect during the period of union with the University. At the
end of the section will be found a list of subjects heretofore offered
for which no provision is now made.
