ABSTRACTS FROM BY-LAWS.

Article II. — Object.

Section 1. The object of this Association shall be to afford
pecuniary aid to such persons as its deceased members shall have
designated in their application for membership, or by will; or,
in the absence of such designation, to the families of the deceased
members.

Section 2. Pecuniary aid may be furnished to the members,
in case of urgent need, out of the interest of the Permanent Fund,
or as provided for in Article VII., Sections 6 and 7.

Article IV. — Membership.

Section 1. Any member in good standing, of the regular medical
profession of the State of New York, who is in good health and in
actual practice, or who is a teacher or professor in a medical school,
is under 50 years of age, and who shall have passed a satisfactory
medical examination, may be admitted to membership in this
Association by a vote of a majority of two-thirds of the Trustees
present, at least five affirmative votes being necessary, and on pay-
ing an initiation fee of two (2) dollars if under thirty (30) years of
age, three (3) dollars if over thirty (30) and under forty (40) years
of age, ten (10) dollars if over, forty (40) and under forty-five (45)
years of age, and twenty (20) dollars if over forty-five (45) and
under fifty (50) years of age, and a first assessment of one (1)
dollar, as provided for by Article V., Section 1, and signing the
By-Laws or a suitable voucher within thirty days after he shall
have received notice of his election.

$1,000.00 is paid to beneficiaries of deceased members. The
Permanent Fund at the close of the last fiscal year was $52,106.41 .

EXAMINATIONS FOR LICENSE TO PRACTISE
MEDICINE.

Laws of New York, 1893, ch. 661; §145 admission to examina-
tion, AS amended to AUG. 1, 1904.

The regents shall admit to examination any candidate who pays
a fee of $25 and submits satisfactory evidence, verified by oath, if
required, that he

1 . Is more than 21 years of age ;

2. Is of good moral character;

3. Has the general education required preliminary to receiving
the degree of bachelor or doctor of medicine in this Slate;

4. Has studied medicine not less than four full school years of at
least nine months each, including four satisfactory courses of at
least six months each, in four different calendar years, in a medical
school registered as maintaining at the time a satisfactory standard.
New York medical schools and New York medical students shall not

be discriminated against by the registration of any medical school
out of the State, whose minimum graduation standard is less than
that fixed by statute for New York medical schools. The regents
may, in their discretion, accept as the equivalent for any part of the
third and fourth requirement, evidence of five or more years' repu-
table practice, provided that such substitution be specified in the
license. The regents may also in their discretion admit condition-
