ton, Princeton, Monmouth, and Stillwater. In 181 8 he was
placed on the pension roll of Jefferson County, N. Y., where
he died.

under Capt. Van Home and Col. Goose Van Schaack and

served until the close of the war. In 1819 he was placed on

the pension roll at Coxsackie, N. Y. He was born, 1764.
William Beals (1753-91) marched from Athens, Vermont, to

Guilford, 1782, to assist the sheriff. He was born in Athens.

to the disgust of his Tory friends. He was born in Salem
County; died in Monmouth County, N. J.

Peter Van Dorn (1755-1834) served as Government purveyor.
He was born and died in Monmouth County.

Aaron Lane (1720-1805) was lieutenant of New Jersey militia,
1777; was wounded in service which compelled him to resign
in 1779. He died in Hunterdon County.

John Smock (1727-1808) rose from captain to colonel of Mon-
mouth County militia, and in 1778 was taken prisoner. He is
buried in Freehold, N. J.

Hendrick Smock (1749-1814) commanded a company in the
Monmouth artillery, 1780.

Garret Schenck (1743-97) served as private, 1779, in defense
of the frontiers of New Jersey. He was born and died in
New Jersey.
