company, 1775, with the guards at Falmouth Neck. He was

born and died in Windham, Conn.
Joseph Chesley (1734-84) served as a guard at Falmouth, Me.

Tryon County regiment, commanded by Col. Jacob Clock,
1775. He served on the vigilance committee of Tryon County.

Douw Fonda (1700-80) was scalped by the Indians when Brandt
and Sir John Johnson invaded the Mohawk Valley. His home
was plundered and burned and his sons, John and Adam, were
captured and taken to Canada. He was born in Albany, N. Y.

John Polk (1754-1814) served as lieutenant in the 8th company,
1st battalion, York County, Pa. troops, 1778. He was born
and died in Sussex County, Del.

Kasson's company, Col. Israel Chapin's 3rd Massachusetts
regiment. He was born in Middletown, Conn. ; died in Otis,
Mass.

White Griswold (1727-77) served in the Canadian campaign,
1776; re-inlisted, 1777, in Capt. Theophilus Munson's com-
pany, taking part in the battle of Germantown, where he was
captured and died on board the prison ship "Philadelphia."
He was born in Bolton, Conn.

John Thomas (1760-1843) was placed on the pension roll of
Hartford County, Conn., 1818, for service as private, Con-
necticut militia. He was born in Woodbridge ; died in Cole-
brook, Conn.

James Otis (1751-1837) enlisted, 1776, as private in Capt. John
Shepard's company, Col. Elisha Porter's Massachusetts regi-
ment, which marched from Westfield to Ticonderoga, Crown
Point and Quebec. He received a pension. He was born in
Montville, Conn. ; died in Chester, Mass.
