Thomas Farrow (1754-1843) served as lieutenant and subse-
quently commanded a company of Partisan Rangers. He re-
ceived a pension in Spartanburg District, S. C, 183 1, for
service as private and lieutenant. His mother was the heroine
who exchanged three of her sons for six British prisoners.
He was born in Virginia; died in Spartanburg County, S. C.

Elijah Hinman (1733-1823) commanded a company of Con-
necticut militia. He was born in Woodbury, Conn. ; died at
St. Ammons, Canada.
Gideon Bowker (1760-1815) served as private in Capt. John
Gates' company, Massachusetts service. He was born in
Northboro, Mass.; died in Lunenbury, Vt.
William Smith (1747-1816) went from Salisbury, Mass to
Deerfield, N. H., in 1774. He served as lieutenant in 'the
Revolutionary War. Was also on the Governor's staff. He
was born in Salisbury, Mass.

Nathaniel Wheatley (1752-1824) turned out to reinforce the
garrison at Ticonderoga, 1777, under Maj. Francis Smith, and
served with the same command under Gen. Horatio Gates. He

Joseph Hoyt (1739-1815) served as private under Capt. Nathan
Sanborn, Stark's brigade, and carried his wounded captain
from the battlefield. He was born in Salisbury, Mass. ; died
in Cabot, Vt.

sobriquet of "Hero Boy of 76." He was born in Stafford
County, Va.

He was born in Granville County, N. C. ; died in Calloway
County, Ky.

Tristam Jordan's regiment. He died, 1818, in Sandwich, Mass.

Joel Sawyer served as corporal, 1775, in Capt. Wentworth
Stuart's company, Col. Edmond Phinny's Massachusetts regi-
ment.

Sargent Shaw (1745- 1823) enlisted as private, 1775, in Capt.
Wentworth Stuart's company, Col. Edmond Phinny's Massa-
chusetts regiment. He was born in Hampton, Mass.

Elijah Warren (1 758-1843) volunteered under Capt. William
Pope and, 1777, served under Capt. Loring Lincoln. His
pension was allowed, 1832, for over six months' actual service
as private, Massachusetts Line. He was born and died in
Leicester, Mass.

Daniel Henshaw (1701-81) was a patriot too old for active
service but provided a substitute. He had four sons officers
in the war. He was born in Boston ; died in Leicester, Mass.

James Whittemore (1734-1811) served as sergeant at the Lex-
ington Alarm. His commission as lieutenant is still in the
family. He was born and died in Leicester, Mass.
