26 May, 1487. To be buried in the churchyard of St. Peter,
Godalmyng next Alice my wife. To the light of the high cross in same
church /\d. To the lights of St. Mary and of St. Sithe 4^. each. For a
light to be founded in honour of St. Katherine in the said church burning
on the principal feasts of the year 2s. To the books of the church already
bought if I die 6s. 8^., and if the Almighty gives me life then 40^. To
John my son my house next the churchyard, a large chest and a brass pot
left to him by my wife lately deceased. To the wife of John my son a

21 June, 1482. ' In the name of God Amen I John Comport of
the parissh of Farle the xxi day of June the yere of our lord Mcccclxxxii
beyng in good mynd and remembrance make my testament in this wise :
fnrst I bequeth my soule to allmyghty god, to our lady seint Mare, and
to all the company of heven, and my body to be beried in the church yerd
of our lady seynt Mare at Farle aforseid. Also I bequeth to the hye auter
of the parish church of Farle xxid. Also I bequeth to the moder chirch
of Wynchester v'\d. Also I will have a trentall done for my soule asson
as itt may be done in goodly wise. Also I bequeth unto my doughter
Alison the bollok that she hirith. Also I bequeth to my doughter
Basseddes wif a bollok to the behof of my goddoughter. Also I bequeth
to John my godson, the sone of Herre Comport, a cowe bollok. Item

unto John Comport, Herre Comport and Richard Comport, my iii eldest
sonnes, my landes and tenementes, rentes, and service, medow pastours,
wodes, weys, pathis with all other comodites and portenaunce beyng
and lyyng in the parish of Sutton by sydis Dertford in the Counte of
Kent, under this forme that the forseyd John, Harre and Richard my
sonnes shall pay unto Johan my wif xli. xiiis. iiiii. of goode lawfull
money of England within the terme of viii yere next comyng after the
date aforseide begynyng the first payment at the fest of Seynt Michael

this iiii youngest sonys to dye within the seide age of xxi yere, than
everych of theme to be other is heyr of this seid money. And if they all
dye w*in the forseid age of xxi yere, then the forseyd viii/*. shall rest
still with the seyd iii elder brethern. And if my iii eldest sones, John,
Harry and Richard, wilnot be content to pay all the seid parcels to my
wif, to my ii doughters And to my iiii youngest sones, under the forme
aforseyd, then I will that Johan my wif have my forseyd londes and
tenementes, rentes and service, medoys, odes, pastures, weys, pathes with
all the comodites and portenaunce longyng therto, lyyng & beyng in
Sutton aforseid, and she to strepe and wast what she list, savyng the
howsys wyndtyght and watertyght duryng the terme of the viii
yere aforseyd, to content hirself of the forseyd xli. xiiis. iiiid. And
then I will that Johan my wife marie Johan and Isabell,
my forseid ii daughters, on her own cost acordyng to my will
aforseid. And after this done yete I will the forseid John, Harry, and
Richard vyne surtie by the vice of my feffeys and myn executours how
my forseid younger sones shall be contente of there parte afor rehersed.
Also I will that the forseid lands & tenementes, rentes, service with all
the apportenauntes, as itt is afor rehersyd, at shall not be sold, butt if itt
happ eny of my iii eldest sones, John, Harry, or Ric. to dey w*out
yssu, then the forseid landes and tenementes as itt is afor rehersed shall
remayn to theme or to him that levith : and if all dey, then I will that the
next of my blode have itt. And because that all my will here wreten
shalbe well & truly performyd I putt feffees in my lond by my lif as it
apperith in a dede of feffment made the day & tyme that this will was made.

my testament in this wise : In primis I bequeth my soule to almyghty
God & to our blissed lady Seint Mary his blissed moder, quene of heven,
& to all the holy company of that place, my body to be buryed in the
chirchyerde of Seynt Laurence of Chabham. Item, I bequeth to the
moder chirch of Seynt Swythines in Winchester iid. Item, I bequeth
to William Lane my son, my cart, with v mares, and the harnesse thereto
longyng. The Residue of all my goods moveable & onmoveable as
wele quyk as dede after that my buryeng and my detts bene paide I
geve unto Agnes my wif . And I make my seid wif and William my son

the church of Holy Trinity. To the high altar of the said church for my
tithes forgot I2d. To the mother church of St. Swithun, Winchester, 4^.
To Thomas Chitey my son 5 marks left by William Chitey, formerly
my husband, father of the said Thomas. Residue to Joan and Margaret
my daughters, Thomas Chitey my son and John Wheler son of John
Wheler my late husband so that the said residue may be divided in
4 equal parts and that Joan may have the first choice of the said 4 parts
Margaret the second choice, Thos. Chitey the third choice, and John
