(13) Conventio inter Walterum de Stapelton Exon episcopum et
priorem et conventum Sancte Frydeswyde Oxon, quod cum dictus
Walterus teneat de dictis priore et conventu unum messuagium in
Oxon vocatum Stapeltone halle, situatum inter tenementum universitatis
Oxon quod vocatur Blakehalle ex parte occidentali et tenementum
priorisse de Stodleye ex parte orientali infra portam de Smythgate,
per certum servitium duorum solidorum eisdem priori et conventui
annuatim debitum, concedunt dicti prior et conventus quod predictus
Walterus illud tenementum dare et assignare possit duodecim scolaribus
in universitate dicte ville studentibus, habendum dictis scolaribus et
successoribus suis de predictis priore et conventu et successoribus suis
in perpetuum, salvo servitio annuali duorum solidorum debito et
consueto: quod si a retro fuerit, licebit priori et conventui in dicto
tenemento distringere. Concedunt etiam prior et conventus quod in
dicto tenemento ratione assignationis predicte per aliquod beneficium
Statuti de comuni consilio regni editi quo provisum est ne terre aut
tenementa ad manum mortuam deveniant, nihil de cetero exigere seu

(14) Conventio facta inter Rectorem et Scolares domus de la
Stapeldonhalle in Oxon et Walterum de Plescye rectorem ecclesie de
Westwardon, cui ad firmam dimittunt Aulam cum cameris et curtilagio
adjacente que vocatur Arthurhalle in parochia S. Petri in oriente
a festo S. Michaelis anno regni regis Edwardi tertii octavo usque ad
terminum decern annorum sibi et assignatis suis, reddendo inde
annuatim novem solidos sterlingorum ad quatuor anni terminos
principales solvendos per equales portiones. Et predictus Walterus
sustentabit Aulam predictam in bono statu, et clausuram circa pre-
dictum curtilagium faciet competentem et in statu competenti susten-
tabit. Et ad istam conventionem fideliter tenendam partes supradicte

shield in his left hand has a cross engraved on it.

(15) Robert Newton Rector of Excyter College and the Fellowes
demise to Philip Randall M.A. then Principall of Hart Hall their
tenement or house ordained for the advancement of learning comenly
called Hart Hall, to have to him and his assigns from the Annunciation
before the date to the end of 21 years, paying yearly 335- 4^, the said
Philip from 5 years to 5 years to put in sufficient security before the
Chancellor. The Rector and Fellowes covenant to make all outward
repairs in slatt and slatting, and the said Philip the inward reparations
of particyons windowes doors flooring and glazeing, except it shall
please the Rector and Fellowes of their benevolence to give lime
boards stones clay nayles, as they had accustomed to do before the
making of this lease : the Rector &c. to pay all rents and other dutyes
goeing out of the said tenement to the University. The said Philip
shall not let &c. to any but one of the foundation of the said College
(10 June 1559). A bond of £6 13^' ^d is added to secure this, by
P. Randell and John Collens M.A. and B.M.

(16) Similar lease to John Evelighe M.A. 10 Oct. 35 EHz. (1593):
a bond of £40 is added, and a letter of attorney to Thomas INIerser to
deliver &c.

(12) Although the Rector and Fellows have had a chapel &c. from
their foundation, yet Thomas Bp. of Lincoln, at the instigation of
Roger de Faryngs calling himself Rector of S. Mildred's, has put
an interdict on the chapel without any cause being heard and refused
to listen to the College, I the procurator of the College appeal to the
Apostolic See and the Court of Canterbury. (? 1342-7).

by which Geoffrey son of Henry Bodin sells his father's land in All Saints parish
