Sect. 2. The treasurer of the Commonwealth shall forthwith send
his warrant directed to the selectmen or assessors of each city or town
taxed as aforesaid, requiring them respectively to assess the sum so
charged, according to the provisions of chapter eleven of the Public
Statutes, and to add the amount of such tax to the amount of town and
county taxes to be assessed by them respective!}- on each city and town.

Sect. 3. The treasurer of the Commonwealth in his warrant shall
require the said selectmen or assessors to pay, or to issue severally
their warrant or warrants requiring the treasurers of their several
cities or towns to pay, to the treasurer of the Commonwealth, on or
before the tenth day of December in the year eighteen hundred and
eighty-two, the sums set against said cities and towns in the schedule
aforesaid ; and the selectmen or assessors respectively shall return a
certificate of the names of the treasurers of their several cities and
towns with the sum which each may be required to collect, to the
treasurer of the Commonwealth at some time before the first day of
October in the year eighteen hundred and eighty-two.

Sect. 4. If the amount due from any city or town, as provided in
this Act, is not paid to the treasurer of the Commonwealth within the
time specified, then the said treasurer shall notify the treasurer of such
delinquent city or town, who shall pay into the treasury of the Com-
monwealth, in addition to the tax, such fuilher sum as would be equal
to one per centum per month, during such delinquency, from and after
the tenth day of December in the year eighteen hundred and eighty-
two : and if the same remains unpaid after the first day of January in
the year eighteen hundred and eighty-three, an information may be
filed by the treasurer of the Commonwealth in the Supreme Judicial
Court or before any justice thereof against such delinquent cit}" or
town ; and upon notice to such city or town and a summary hearing
thereon a warrant of distress may issue against such city or town, to
enforce the pa3'ment of said taxes, under such penalties as said court
or the justice thereof, before whom the hearing is had, shall order.

Sect. 5. This Act shall take efifect upon its passage. May 26,
1882.

CHAPTER 272.

AN ACT CONCERNING THE SALE OR USB OP TOY PISTOLS AND
OTHER DANGEROUS ARTICLES.

Section 1. The city council of any citj^ and the selectmen of any city and towns
town, may adopt such rules and regulations as they may deem reason- ^f/o^uSeo?

; able in relation to the sale or use, within the limits thereof, of toy toy pistoia.

' pistols, toy cannon, and all other aiticles in which explosive com-
pounds of any kind are used, or of which such compounds form a
part, and may affix penalties for violation of such rules and regula-
tions not exceeding fifty dollars for any one offence ; but no such rule
or regulation shall take effect until it has been approved by the Supe-
rior Court, or in vacation by a justice thereof, and with such approval
entered and recorded, as provided in section twenty-one of chapter Pnb. stanch. 27,
twenty-seven of the Public Statutes. * ^'

Sect. 2. This Act shall take effect upon its passage. May 26,
1882.



CHAPTER 273.

AN ACT IN FURTHER ADDITION TO " AN ACT MAKING APPRO-
PRIATIONS FOR EXPENSES AUTHORIZED THE PRESENT YEAR,
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES."

Section 1 . The sums hereinafter mentioned are appropriated to be Appropriationfl.

revenue, unless otherwise ordered, for the purposes specified in cer-
tain Acts and Resolves of the present year, and for other purposes,
to wit : —

For the compensation of a commissioner to the national forestry
convention, fifty dollars, as authorized by a joint resolution adopted
April eighteenth of the present year by the Senate and House of
Representatives.

For the Massachusetts school for idiotic and feeble-minded youth,
four thousand ^\e hundred dollars, as authorized bj- chapter fifty-one
of the Resolves of the present year.

For the compensation and expenses of an additional agent of the
board of education, twenty-seven hundred dollars, as authorized by
chapter fift3"-three of the Resolves of the present year.

For painting and necessary repairs upon the buildings of the state
normal school at Framingham, eleven hundred and seventy dollars, as
authorized by chapter fifty-four of the Resolves of the present year.

For the purchase of paper for the Commonwealth, as authorized by
chapter fifty-six of the Resolves of the present year, a sum not ex-
ceeding ten thousand dollars, and there may be used from the appro-
priation made the present year for. printing public documents such
further sum as may be necessar}' for the same purpose.

For expenses at the state prison at Concord, a sum not exceeding
seventeen, thousand dollars, as authorized by chapter sixty of the
Resolves of the present 3'ear.

For painting the State House and making repairs in and about the
same, a sum not exceeding seventeen thousand dollars, as authorized
by chapter fifty-nine of tlie Resolves of the present year.

For the purpose of exterminating contagious diseases among horses
and cattle, a sum not exceeding two thousand dollars, as authorized
by chapter fifty-eight of the Resolves of the present year.

For the publication of reports of contested election cases, as au-
thorized b}^ chapter sixty-one of the Resolves of the present year, a
sum not exceeding twelve hundred dollars.

For the salaries of the assistant clerks of the Senate and House of
Representatives, six hundred dollars, as authorized hy chapter two
hundred and fiftj'-seven of the Acts of the present 3 ear, in addition
to the amount heretofore appropriated.

For the salar3' of the assistant register of probate and insolvency
for the count3' of SuflTolk, five hundred dollars, as authorized by
chapter one hundred and fort3'-four of the Acts of the present 3'ear,
the same to be in addition to the amount heretofore appropriated.

For the salaries of the clerks of the boaixl of commissioners of
savings banks, two hundred and ninet3' dollars, as authorized by
chapter one hundred and fort3'-€ight of the Acts of the present 3'ear,
the same to be in addition to the amount heretofore appropriated.

For the salary of the di8trict-attorno3- for the eastern district, four
hundred and twent3'-eight dollars and thirt3 - three cents, as authorized
b3' chapter one hundred and fift3'-six of the Acts of the present year,
the same to be in addition to the amount heretofore appropriated.

For the purchase of books for the state libraiy, one thousand dol-
lars, as authorized by chapter one hundred and ninet3'-six of the Acts
of the present 3'ear, the same to be in addition to the amount hereto-
fore appropriated.

For the payment of salaries at the state prison at Concord, sixteen
hundred dollars, made necessar3- b3' the provisions of chapter two
hundred and three of the Acts of the present 3*ear, the same to be in
addition to the amount heretofore appropriated.

For the salaiy of the chief justice of the Superior Court three hun-
dred and twenty-two dollars and fift3'-nine cents, and for the salaries
of the ten associate justices of the Superior Court, three thousand two
hundred and twent3'-five dollars and ninet3'' cents, as authorized by-
chapter two hundred and five of the Acts of the present 3'ear, the
same to be in addition to the amount heretofore appropriated.
