Catalogues. — ^The Author Catalogue, stret^dn^ in
double row around the central desk, is now, in its prmted
form, condensed to about 960 volumes. In the way of
Class Catalogues, which for the most part exist in the
unrealized dreams of successive generations of librarians, we
have Fortescue's exceedingly useful Subject Index, and
Poole's likewise valuable Index to Periodicals. A new
edition of Fortescue's Subject Index, i 881-1900. has now
been printed, as also an additional volume for the years
1 901 -1 905. These aids to reference are, with their respec-
tive supplements, to be found next the central desk. There
are, in addition to these, special catalogues of manuscripts,
music, and maps, and usefiU bibilographies on every subject
are to be found in the cases at the end of the readers'
desks.

Tracing. — Application must be made to the Superinten-
dent for permission.

The Reading Room is open on week-days (except the first
four days in March and September, Good Friday, Christmas
Day, and days appointed by authority), from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.,
throughout the year.

The Newspaper Room, which is under the same regula-
tions as the Reading Room, is open January, February,
10 a.m. to 3.50 p.m. ; March, 10 a.nL to 4.50 p.m. ; April to
August, 10 a.m. to 5.50 p.m. ; September, October, 10 a.m.
to 4.50 p.m. ; November, December, 10 a.m. to 3.50 p.m.
The Room is closed on Sundays, Good Friday, Christmas
Day, and the first four week-days of March and September.

The Students' Room, Department of MSS., is open
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., it being required that all MSS. be
given up at 4.45 p.m. The Room is closed at certain times,
as in the case of the Reading and Newspaper Rooms.

The Print Room and the Orixiital Students' Room are
open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
