The Table is read thus .—In the Islands in the British Sea.s there wore 141,638 persons of both sexes, viz. 08,222 males, of whom 8,386 wiire under 5 years of age,— 8,175
afted B and under 10 years,— 7,963 aged 10 and under 16 years, and so on for each respoctiye colnmn ; and 78,410 females, of whom 8,473 were under 6 years of age,— 8,104 aged
6 and under 10 years, — 7,692 aged 10 and under 16 years, and so on.

* The Islands adjacent to Guernsey are Alderney (population 2,73S), Groat and Little Sark (population 548), Herm (population 83), Jothou (population 4), Brechou
(population 5), the Caskets (population 8), and Le Marchant (uninhabited).
