The Table is read thus :— In Division II,— South-Eastern Counties, there were 2,167,726 persons of both sexes, viz. 1,064,685 males, of whom 143,164 were under 5 years of
, age,— 129,268 aged 5 and under 10 .vears,— 116,371 aged 10 and under 16 years, and so on for each respective column ; and 1,108,091 females, of whom 142,966 were under 6 years
of age,— 129,243 aged 5 and under 10 years,— 113,268 aged 10 and under 16 years, and so on.

* Registration or Union Counties consist of gi-oups of Superintendent Registrars' Districts which are generally co-extensive with the Poor Law Unions. Those Districts
which extend into two or more Counties (proper) are included entirely in that County in which the principal town of the District or the gi'eater part of the population is
located. The boundaries of Registration or Union Co\mties therefore differ more or less from the boundaries of Counties (proper).

t The Superintendent Registrars' Districts of this Division are co-extensive with the Unions of the same name, with the following exceptions : The Lewes District (75)
comprises the lour Poor Law Unions of Lewes, Ghailey, West Pirle, andNewhaven; the Winchester District (100) comprises the two Unions of New Winchester and
