Battalion, Cumberland County Militia. He was a freeman in 1781 in Peter's Twp. of the
then Cumberland Co. PA. Evidently owned an interest in a Grist Mill & Sawmill with
sisters 4 brothers (perhaps inherited from father) & is mentioned as a brother in John's
will for which he served as co-executor. The 1881 Stark Co. OH History ties George Jr.
to George Sr. George Jr. moved to Columbiana Co. Ohio in 1814 where on Oct. 19, 1814 he
bought land for SI, 892. Son, John, saw service in the War of 1812.
. . (162-2) John served, 1781-82, in the Revolutionary Var under Captain Walter McKinnie in
the Cumberland County Militia. In 1796, Peter's Twp. taxed him on 30 acres of land, 1
Grist Mill, 1 Saw Mill, 4 1 horse. His will was dated 4 probated APS 1810. He stated
that all money and ^ the bonds, notes, book accounts, (be divided) between myself and the
heirs of Michael Clapsaddle deed., to my brother George & sisters (prob. includes Hannah m
Philip Hansel) & heirs of sister Elizabeth, deed. He specified that the grist mill i saw

Clapsaddle sister?) as executors.
. . (162-4) Michael served from 1781-82 in the Revolutionary Var as a private under Z&'pt.
Valter McKinnie in the Cumberland Co. PA Militia. In the 1781 Peter's Twp., Cumberland
Co. PA Tax Records, he was taxed on a saw mill 4 grist mill as well as 350 acres of land.
He also had 4 horses 4 5 cattle. In 1796, he was taxed by Peter's Twp. on 150 acres of
land, 3 horses, 4 4 cows. He died prior to his brother John in 1810 4 wife, Barbara, 4
Daniel Ridenour acted as executors of his estate.
.. (162-5) Susannah's husband, Philip Hansel (Hentzel) , was granted on 2APR1812 Letters of
Administration in Franklin Co. PA for his wife's inheritance (probably her share in the
grist mill 4 saw mill). Suspect that she had died in 1812 (or prior) 4 with the death of
brothers John 4 Michael, the Clapsaddles were in the stages of selling the mills which
would explain why George Clapsaddle Jr. left Franklin Co. in 1814 for Ohio. She was also
known as 'Hannah' but named one daughter 'Susanna'.

. . (164) George Adam arrived at Philadelphia Saturday 11AUG1750 aboard the ship "Patience"
under Capt. Hugh Steel from Rotterdam via Cowesdsle of Wight) England. Since there were
two George Eckharts aboard, it is quite possible that the other George Eckhart was his
father. They had probably departed from their home in the Southern portion of Germany as
early as May 1750 & had spent weeks floating down the Rhine passing many custom posts 4
spending several more weeks at custom posts at Rotterdam in the Netherlands 4 at Cowes,
Islae of Wight, England.
George Adam may have been the George Adam Eckhart who in 1768 at Annapolis, MD swore
allegiance to Pennsylvania & the King of England. The George Adam Eckhart who arrived in
Philadelphia in 1774 may have been son (Jeorge returning from a visit to Germany.
He may have lived in the York Co. PA area because the "The Loar Genealogy" quotes a
Mrs. Emma Betz, who had lived in the Frostburg MD area most of her life, who claimed
"that Jacob Lower, the Eckherts, Steyers, Beemans, Staups, and the Chaneys, came from
