prob. Marxzell. Kar lsruhe Dist. . Baden. Germany

..The ancestor of Christian Schattmiiller is unknovm at this date. The church records of
Pfaffenrot/Burbach do not begin until around 1730. The prior parish may have been
Schollbronn, Spesart, or Ettlingen to the Northwest. The Schottmuller' s were a long
established family in the area & earned their living grinding grain at their mill south
of Ettlingen. At some point prior to 1700, some of these Schottmiillers migrated to the
Catholic villages around Marxzell including Burbach, Schielberg, & Pfaffenrot. These
villages were under the control of the Abbess of the Abbey at Herrenalb until 1805 when
the Grand Dukes of Baden seized the lands & distributed them to the citizens.

Baden was part of the Holy Roman Empire during the 1700' s and did not become part of
Germany until around 1871 when Germany unified under the leadership of the Kingdom of
Prussia. Baden in the 1600' s had been torn apart by religious strife with Protestants
predominate to the East i South of the Marxzell area.

The Catholic priest in Burbach served the Schielberg, Marxzell, 4 Pfaffenrot areas
until the 1950' s, when Pfaffenrot built it's own church & was assigned a priest.

Although the church records of Burbach do not begin until 1730 and therefore do not
