. .23AUG1890, Deidrich renounced loyalty to Emperor of Germany in District Court,
Manchester, Iowa. Deidrich took oath of allegiance to United States and became a
naturalized citizen, 17(XT1892 (required for land purchase).
..He gave 1872 as date of arrival In USA In 1900 Census, but gave AUG1874 in 1890
citizenship papers which is probably more accurate because of the legal nature of the
papers. Laura Feldernan (008-8-1) remembers that he may have gone to England before
working his way to America. She remembers that he was opposed to German/ Prussian
militarism. Genevieve Lally (008-7-2) remembers that he talked of Holland very much
indicating that he may have stayed there for a awhile or at least passed thru on his way
to England & America with a friend. She also remembers that he had arguments with
(jenan/ American neighbors on (jerman militarism. His opposition to German/Prussian
militarism may have coincided with the Prussian conquest of Hannover in 1866/67 & the
Franco-Prussian War of 1871. Of prime military age for the latter, one wonders if he saw
service or fled to Holland & England.
..Laura remembers that in the 1920s , Deidrich had been Injured when hit by a mail wagon
stepping off a curb in Manchester. Genevieve remembers that after the death of wife,
Jane, Deidrich often visited son, Albert, to play cards. She also remembers him as a
very neat man both in person & possessions. Census records indicate that he had a six
grade education in Germany. He died of appolexy (paralysis) & his body was found on the
floor of his house.
..8II0V1928, Deidrich' s will favored Mary Webster (step-daughter) & Mathilda Mosher with a
bequest of $250 each to have priority over other children. In addition, Mathilda & Mary
were to share in the equal division of the rest of estate wilth other children: Albert,
Ed, Fred, Louise, & Minnie.
Lewis 4 George were not mentioned. The estate was valued at $4,700 with $2,787.02 in
cash and the remainder real estate and personal possessions.
