..1651, Jul 21, John Sr . with John Clarke and Obadah Holmes, arrested in

Lynn, Massachusetts by a constable for preaching Baptist' thought and taken

to Boston.

..1651, Jul 31, he was sentenced to pay a fine of five pounds, or be

publicly whipped. Released from prison upon his promise of appearing at next

court .

..1667, Oct. 17, he was mentioned in complaint from Connecticut that he had

trespassed to the west side of Pawcatuck River & laid out about a mile

square for his son.

1669, May 14, he and Jos. Torrey, were appointed commissioners to treat
with Connecticut over land disputes. R.I. Colony borrowed 35 shillings to
pay for John Crandall ' s trip to Connecticut.

..1669, Nov 18, In a letter. Governor of Connecticut complained that John
Sr . & others had appropriated a great parcel of Stonington Twp. and asked
for satisfaction.

..1670, Mar 11, he & Tobias Saunders answered on behalf of Westerly, denying
any guilt in matter complained of; "but we are very sensible of great wrongs
that we have sustained by them for several years" . The letter closes "As for
your advice, to agree with those, our neighbors of Stonington (Ct. ) and the
other gentlemen, we hope that your colony and ours, will in the first place
lovingly agree, and then we question not but there will be an agreement
between us and our neighbors of Stonington, and the rest of the gentlemen."
..1670, Jun 19, as Conservator of Peace, reported to the R.I. Governor that
men from Connecticut had intruded into Rhode Island and carried away some
the inhabitants as prisoners.
..1670, Aug 2, buried first wife.

..1670, Oct 3, John Sr. deeded son John, of Newport, "for love, &c., all my
goods, chattels, debts, household utensils and all other personal estate,
movable or immovable, quick or dead-putting him in quiet and peaceable
possession by payment of one shilling in silver by son" .

..1671, Jan 30, as a Deputy from Westerly in Rhode Island Assembly, bills
were allowed by the Assembly for hire of a boat to go to Narrangansett for
hire of Sarah Reape's horse, for use in trip to Hartford.

..1671, May 2, siezed by Connecticut authoriti'es , the Rhode Island Assembly
advised him "not to give bond, and that if he be forced to imprisonment, the
colony will bear his charges, and endeavour to justify his actings therein".
1671, May 6, Assembly allowed him 20s to bear his charge.
..1675, Jan 23, In a letter from Ruth Burdick, of Westerly, to her father
Samuel hubbard, of Newport, she says; "Brother Crandall hath the ague and
fever still, and have been but little amongst us this winter, sister
Crandall is brought to bed with a son, and is in a hopeful way."
..1676, having moved to Newport, during King Phillip's War with the
Wampanoag Indians, he died. His death is alluded to in a letter from Samuel
Hubbard, who also wrote a few years later; "My dear brother, John Crandall,
of Squamicut, is dead and his first wife, a sabbath keeper, the first that
died in that blessed faith in New England.

..Benjamin served as a Deacon in Seventh Day Baptist Church ..Other
descendents were businessmen, politicians, and Newport R.I. building
contractors .

..1650, Robert Sr . bought land from Indians at Newport.

..1661, Land Evidence Book at Westerly states that Robert Burdick owned Lot
#36 in Westerly. Book#l, p. 10 states that Robert along with Jos. Clark and
John Maxson were chosen to assist in choosing the officers for the General
Court .

..cl661, Robert Sr . , along with other R.I. men were captured by Mass. men .
and taken to Bay Colony to answer for being located on land claimed by Mas^
Robert was the only one who would not pay or allow others to pay at Boston
his f ine(abti- 25 . 00) . As a result he remained in jail at Boston nearly two
years. R.I. waited til they caught some Mass. men in Rhode Island territory
and then exchanged them for Robert. He always claimed he has a right to
settle where he did. His bail had been set at 100 pounds.



..1675, Robert Sr . , took the Oath of Allegiance at Westerly and in the same

year moved his family back to Newport due to Indian wars.

..1680, as original Incorporators of Westerly, served in Genral Court.

..1691, he and wife sold 100 acres of land for 10 pounds.

..1692, makes agreement with son-in-law Jos. Crandall, whereby he was to

live with them as long as he lived and in return Jos. was to get Robert

Sr . ' s home with adjacent lands forever. Also he was to have the use of the

Oxen, cart, two cows, 8 swine etc., the same to go to his heirs at his

death. Inventory at death was: 2 oxen, 2 heifers, 6 swine, 1 mare, wearing

apparell, warming pan & pewter ware.

. . (3008) Balph Sr. settled in Newtown on Long Island NY in 1652 and purchased land from
the Indians in 1656. Altho Long Island was under Dutch authority, he conspired to unite
Long Island with Connecticut 3i was denounced by the Dutch in 1663. From 1663 to 1664,
he was Town Officer of Hastings (Newtown) . On 4JAN1666/67, he 3f eleven others agreed to
enclose their lands in a single field for cultivation. On 2APR1667, he was chosen
constable of Newtown. About 1668, his house, barns, 4 all his effects were destroyed by
fire together with corn collected from tax rates. In 1667, he was chosen permanent

V surveyor. In 1671, the first church edifice in Newtown was erected on land appropriated

_^for its use by Ralph Sr. which is now land at the corner of Main
St. a Jamaica Rd. in Queens, N.Y. Upon the return of Dutch authority, he was appointed
'schepen'or magistrate on 6SEP1673.

married a Frances ? and fathered: Joseph, John , Hannah, Mary, St an unknown daughter
married Abner Philips s/o Philip.

. . (3008-2) Edward on 18N0V1686 received the Patent of Uewtown from Gov. Dongan that had
been granted originally to his father, Ralph. Around 1700 he supervised the building of
a house for the minister at Newtown i advanced money from his private funds to aid the
construction. On 23MAR1702, he was named Surveyer of Highways for the Newtown area.
Some sources say that Edward Sr. married Elizabeth Hazzard.

. . (3008-3) Mary seems to be the grandmother thru son, Edward, of John Hart, signer of The
Declaration of Independence. Mary's husband, John Hart, is referred to as a brother-in-
law in Edward Hunt's will (3008-2) 4 John Hart, the Declaration signer was buried on
Vilson Hunt's farm(Source; Helen Hunt).

. . (3008-4) Ralph Jr. moved to the Maidenhead, NJ area around 1694 & preceded Samuel Hunt
^ other kinsmen to the New Jersey area.

..Jelson says that Samuel Bonum was probably English & somehow connected with the English
Fleet stationed at Cork in Ireland. He first appears in Virginia in 1653 as a recipient
