.. (5394) Thomas in 1635 first went to Virginia aboard the ' Bonaventure' . He disliked
Virginia & made his way to Boston gaining a knowledge of Indian customs and languages on
the way. In 1636, he was appointed interpreter to the Indians by Massachusett ' s
authorities to accompany an investigation committee at Saybrook CT into the murder of
Capt. Stone 4 Sewton by the Pequot Indians. At the close of the Saybrook Conference in
1637, he chose to settle at Hartford CT 4 became a friend of Gov. Vinthrop of Connecticut

with coasting vessels which were cruising along the Hew England coast, gathering furs
from the Indians and purchasing the surplus products of the planters, and selling the
same either in Boston or in the West Indies. From 1662 until death in 1677, he was
magistrate and commissioner (later Stonington).

In 1670, Uncas, the Mohegan Sachem, went from Mohegan to Pawcatuck for Mr. Stanton to
write his will, taking with him a train of his noblest warriors to witness the affair,
with all the pomp and pageantry of royalty.

he commanded a company of men that participated in the ITarragansett swamp fight on
19DEC1675. Together with George Denison' s men, he pursued & overpowered the Indian
survivors bringing the war to a close. He inherited his father's farm on the east bank
of the Mystic River in Stonington CT.

. . (5394-6) Daniel '.^s persuaded by his brothers to help enlarge the family business by
going to Barbadoes to set up a trading warehouse. He was to trade Connecticut goods,
furs, 8t farm products for goods 4 groceries needed by Connecticut planters. Before
departing for Barbadoes, Daniel ordered a 41 foot ship built to carry goods back and
forth between the Island 4 Connecticut.
