. . (042) George Darrow Sir. moved to the Ashtabula OH area around 1844 where Darrow, Cross,
4 Stone relatives already lived. In 1864, he left for Iowa where Penhollow, Eaton, &
Stone relatives had already .settled. His father-in-law, Andrew Stone, may have
accompanied George Darrow & family because he was living with the Darrows in Lodomillo
Twp. of Clayton County in 1870. George's Real Estate was valued at $600 and Personal
Property at $400 in 1870. In 1895, George was living with daughter Hancy Hansel & her
husband; Jake Hansel (#020) . Place of death & burial are unknown.
. . (043) Ellen Stone Darrow was 58 yrs, 3 nos, & 10 dys old at death. Of her children,
Aurllla, (Elista, 4 Amanda Laura were dead by 1882.
. . (042-1) Urlllia In 1860 was living in Plymouth Twp. of Ashtabula County, Ohio with
husband, George Enos, who was listed as a laborer. JJothlng more of her is known.

., (042-2) Alfred, during the Civil War, served as a Private with Company "L" of the 19th
Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Militia 27APR-30AUG1861. From 8AUGia62 to 3JU11865 he
served with Company "K" of the 105th Ohio Infantry St was discharged in Washington, D.C.
In his pension application(#907627. Cert. #728643) he is described as 5'9%" 4 155# in
1892. He was granted a $6.00 monthly pension for the rheumatism he said he contracted the
day he was captured by Confederate Soldiers in December 1862 near Stone Fiver, Tennessee
(near McMinnville) while an a forage detail. Stripped of his clothing, he was exposed to
the elements. The Confederates under Gen. Morgan released him in a prisoner exchange
near Murfreesboro, TU on Jan. 27, 1863. Alfred lost all his upper teeth as a result of
'bad food' causing scurvy while a prisoner. He 4 family appear in the Manchester, Iowa
Census of 1880 & in September of that year was working on the Railroad at James River,
Dakota Territory. In 1891, he was living in Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin working
as a carpenter. Suffering from chronic bronchitis, he evidently moved to Elkport, Iowa
to be near relatives before he died in 1894. The fate of wife & children are unknown,
although the Elkader Iowa Register (;?^jmn 893) rppnrt.Pfi:
"4 horrible accident occurred at Updegraff last Thursday, in which a little boy was
crushed to death. It seejns that one of Alfred Barrow's boys was playing near the log
pile at Beddow' s saw mill when the logs rolled A rolled over the bay's head, smashing it
into a Jelly & killing him instantly. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in
their sad affliction."
. . (042-6) Ellen 4 Henry Ford left their home in Elk Twp. of Clayton Co. , la. for Howard
City, Miner Co. , South Dakota around 1884. In the 1900 SD Census, Henry is listed as a
holel keeper. Henry had been born in England in APR1843 4 arrived in the USA In 1846.
Son, Layfayette, worked in the Howard City pool hall 4 as a bartender in a city saloon in
the 1910 Census. In 1920, Ellen Darrow Ford travelled from Ryder, UD to Manchester, lA
to attend Sylvester 4 Louisa Darrow' s golden wedding anniversary. Ellen died of cancer
of the liver 4 duodema complicated by profound jaundice from which she suffered for about
four months prior to death. She had lived in Ryder since 1916 4 Henry had preceded her
in death at Cleveland in Stutsman County, ITorth Dakota.
. . (042-10) Sylvester in the 1880 Kansas Census was living in Branch Twp. (Peabody) of
Marion County. In 1910, his daughter, Rilla Darrow Uoggles, traveled from her hoaie in
Uorth Buena Vista, Clayton County, Iowa to attend the funeral at Garber of her uncle,
Jake Hansel (#020) . On Sunday 11JUL1920 at Manchester, la., Sylvester 4 wife celebrated
their golden wedding anniversary with sisters, ITancy, Ellen, 4 Julia, present. Son,
Uewell, was a mail carrier for 18 years at Elkport in Clayton County, Iowa 4 was a
construction worker at Manchester 4 Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sylvester's religion was listed
as Latter Day Saint (Mormon, Independence, Missouri?).
. . (042-11) Charles must have divorced Mary Scott because she married (Jeorge Richmond on
30APR1881 at Edgewood, Clayton County, Iowa (recorded in Delaware county). In the 1885
Census, Charles's first wife, Mary J. Scott, was living alone in Honey Creek Twp.,
Delaware County, la. with daughters: Jellie Darrow(14) 4 Rosetta DarrQw(6).
. . (42-12) Julia was living at 544 H Street West in Cedar Rapids, la. at the time of her
death. She had been a resident of Cedar Rapids for 22 years. Husband, Jesse L. Lewis,
remarried a Hattie S. ? 4 he died 2JA51944 at 337 Third Ave. S. W. in Cedar Rapids. Her
first husband may have been Henry Booth vs. Emery.

sound mind and nemory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life
do then 4 make ordain publish and declare this my last will and Testament That is to say
first after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged and all funeral expenses paid the
residue of Estate Real and Personal I give and bequeath and dispose of as follows To wit "
"To my Beloved wife the land and appurtenance on which I at present reside on
situat(ed) in the Township of Mallory and County of Clayton and State of Iowa and this
forty acres of land situated in Township County and State as foresaid now possesed by me
during the term of her natural life and after her death to be divided among my heirs as
follows to wit To my son Samuel E. Baker the farm situated and lying on the Public road
leading fron Colesburg to Elkader and on which I at present reside on by the said Samuel
E. BsLker paying to my daughter Mary E. Hansel the sum of one Hundred & fifty dollars
after or within one year after he comes in possesion of said property and to my two
daughters Virginia A, Baker and Rachel Frances Baker, I give and bequeath the forty acres
of land known as the McSpern farm and more particularly described to wit"

ninety one Horth of range three and west of the fifth principal maridian to be Equally
divided between the said heirs as may best suit and I further give the two last named

Methodist Episcopal Church (1893-1923), she died at the horns of her daughter, Gertrude
Vebster, in Oelwetn, Iowa.
. . (M7-4) Saauel was about 80 yrs. old at time of death at the home of daughter, Florence
Purman, near Guttenberg. His obituary described him as "...upright and honest citizen,
true friend and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand, wherever it was needed.."
Vife Clara I. Sevan's father, John S. , was the great-nephew of Mary Eckhart Hansel (wife
of John Hansel Sr. #040). John S. 's father, Samuel, had married Mary Eckhart Hansel's

ossibly brothers: Charles Gaffney, 46, with daughter Eleanor, 19,4 son, Edward, 6, with

name spelled 'Connery', however son, John, chose the spelling 'Conry' which may have been
the original spelling. According to son, John, they all came to the USA in 1840, but I
