• . (056) John is the probable head of this Heffernan family because both Thomas 8k Roger
named their first sons; John. This is probably the same John that in 1847 was paying
rent of jtl.10.0 on two acres of land to Lord Inchiquin of Tomlinflon Parish in Clare
County. Other possible relations in nearby parishes in the 1847 tax records include:
Richard Heffernan living in Doora Parish & Patrick living in Templemaley Parish.
Hef fernans(Hif fernanes) originally populated the area around Corofin in Clare County.
Most Heffernans are now most frequently found in the Counties Limerick & Tipperary. Our
line probably descend from a Miles Hiffernane who was listed in the 1659 Clare County
Census St is found living in Derrymore Twp. of Tomgrany Parish with sons: James, John, 4
Roger. Distinquished Heffernans include: Aeneas 0' Heffernan, Bishop of Emly, 1543-1553,
& William Dall 0' Heffernan(1715-1802) , Gaelic Poet. Also Dr. Paul Hiffernan (1719-1777) ,
the dramatist. The prefix '0' has been dropped in modern times.

allegiance to Great Britian & announced his intention to become a U.S. Citizen probably
in anticipation of owning land. On 120CT1855, Timothy Quinn & Danne? Regan swore that
Thomas Heffernan had been in the United States for at least five years & he was granted
citizenship in Cayuga County Court. Son John & his wife, Mary Ann Gillespie, were the
