Note.— From the Return No. 438 of Session 1895, relating to the Acquisition of Land by Local
Authorities under the "Allotments Acts" 1887 and 1889, it appears that, at the date of the Return,
83 Rural Sanitary Authorities and 12 County Councils had acquired land for Allotments. In 26
parishes acquisition had been made by purchase, and in 158 by hire under agreement. The total
extent of land acquired by these authorities was 2,250 acres, and allotments had been let to 6,536
tenants.

The Return further shows that 490 Rural Sanitary Authorities had not acquired land for
allotments.
