has been said that she was his second wife, and that after
her husband's death she married again.

of Chatham, Middlesex Co., Conn.; m., Nov. 7, 1771, Anna
Aiken or Akins, bapt. June 13, 1748, dau of Thomas
and Hannah (Brainerd) Aiken. He was appointed En-
sign of the 14th Co., 6th Eegt., Oct., 1764. Ho, with his
brother Amos, in 1814 or 1815, and his son, emigrated to
Brooklyn, Ohio, with ox teams and one or two horses, Init
when within some 50 miles of their destination he was
taJcen sick, died, and was buried. The others then pro-
ceeded on their Joiu-ney. Those who reached Brooki}Ti,
Ohio, suffered great hardships, as the country was a wilder-
ness. They had exchanged their Connecticut farms with
Moses Lord and Baker for land in Brooklvn, Ohio. Mr.
Jedidiah Brainerd d. in 1814 or 1815. in what is now

died before March 7, 1818, as she was then called Widow
Parmelee. A descendant said slie was married three

Conn., daughter of Jolin and Abigail (Crocker) Williams.
She was granddaughter of William and Dorothy (John-
son) Williams of Westchester, Conn, and great grand-
daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Williams, who were
among the earliest settlers of Colchester. He served in the
Bevolutionary War. They settled in Canaan, N. Y., and
on a Sunday in the latter part of June, 1773, they went to
church, and returning found their house and all it con-
tained entirely consumed by fire. In 1827 he went to Berk-
shire, >:. Y., and settled, on lot 348-373 in the valley of
Wilson Creek, arriving at his new home the 18th of June.
Mrs. Susanna (Williams) Brainerd died April 8, 1813, in
her 62d year. Mr. Ichabod Brainerd died Aug. 20, 1833,
ao. 84 years, in Cortlandville. X. Y.

Strong, b. Mav 4, 1767, dau. of Joshua and Hope
(Smith) Strong of Haddam. He settled first in Middle
Haddani, Conn. He owned real estate in Farmington,
Me. He was a teacher in that place, and was a petitioner
for a town. May 22, 1793. In 1793 he was in Chester,
Me., and from there it is said went South. He returned
to Connecticut, and went to Eiish, Monroe Co., N. Y.,
about 1796. He was a farmer and builder and put up
the first flour and sawmill in Monroe County in 1800,
about ten miles south of Eochester, N. Y. Mr. Eli
Brainerd d. March 7, 1817, or July 10, 1830, in Bush,
N. Y. She m. (3), Charles Goff of Bush, son of Comfort
and Susanna (Guernsey) Goff. Mr. Charles Goff d. Oct.
15. 1832. Mrs. Anne (Strong) (Brainerd) Goff d. Aug.
7, 1816, in Grand Blanc. Mich.

bard) Brainerd of Haddam. He moved from Haddam
when 21 years of age. He was then a shoemaker, after-
wards a farmer in Newburgh, Ohio. He was killed by the
fall of a tree. Mr. Amos Brainerd died about 1838.
Mrs. Bachel (Brainerd) Brainerd died about 1846. They
are both buried in South Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland,

of Haddam, Middlesex Co., Conn; m., Dec. 31, I'tS'J,
Guernsey Goif, b. Xov. 13, 1766, son of Comfort and
Susannah (Guernsey or Garnsey) Goff of Haddam. Com-
fort Gofl: came from Eehoboth, Mass., to Connecticut about
1756. He was a shoemaJver. He then learned the cooper's
trade and was well known in Connecticut and western New
York, as the blind cooper. He did all kinds of cooper work,
especially tight work. He was in the War of the Kevolu-
tion with his brothers. He was engaged to be married to
Asenath's sister Dimmis. He said "if he did not marry
her he hoped he would be blind," and he was blind, having
pierced his eye with an awl. He moved to New York
state about 1804. Mrs. Asenath (Brainerd) Goff died
July 15, 1825, in Rush, Monroe Co.. N. Y. He m. (2),
July, 1828, Sophia Brainerd, 1). Jime 1, 1778, sister of his
first wife. Mr. Guernsey GofE d. Aug. 5 or 6, 1835, in
Eush, N. Y. Mrs. Sopliia (Brainerd) Goff d. about 1864,
or June, 1871. in Grand Blanc, Genesee Co., Mich.

son, Conn. She was educated in Haddam at the liome of
her aunt, Mrs. Boardman. He moved from Haddam to
New York, then to Flint, Mich. He was school inspector
in Mundy, Mich., in 1831, '43, '44. He was considered a
well educated man. It is said he was a Baptist minister.
