b. Feb. 19, 1787, daughter of Charles and Deborah (Hill)
Goff. He moved with his parents to Connecticut from
Kingston, Me., about 1797, and accompanied them to Eush.
He soon moved near Rochester, N. Y., and when sixteen
years of age commenced learning the cabinet trade. At
eighteen years of age he experienced religion and sustained
faithfully the Christian life until the hour of his death, or

for seventy years. He was a faithful soldier of the cross.
In 1813 he went to Buffalo, N. Y., as a volunteer soldier.
In 1832 he moved to Michigan with his family and imr-
chased six eighty-acre lots of government in the township
of Grand Blanc, and on one of these lots he resided forty-
three years. He was justice of the peace for four years in
Eush, N. Y., and about twenty-six years in Grand Blanc,
Mich., and supervisor the same length of time, and township
treasurer for three years. He was deacon in the Baptist
church. Mrs. Asenath (GoS) Brainerd died March 20,
1854. Mr. Alfred Eli Brainerd died Aug. 15, 1875, ae. 88

239. Anna" Brainerd {Eli^, Dudley*, James^, James", Daniel^)

of Eush, Monroe Co., N. Y.; m., Oct. 6, 1817, David Wil-
cox, b. Oct. 1, 1789, in Connecticut, son of Elias and Kancy
(Burdick) Wilcox. He was a soldier in the War of 1812,
on account of which he became a pensioner of the United
States. He removed to Michigan in 1831, and settled on
Section 2, Township of Shelby, Macomb Co., Mich., where
they underwent all the hardships of pioneer life. He pur-
chased two quarter sections of land which he cultivated.
In addition to clearing and cultivating his farm, he worked
at the carpenter's trade and accmnulated considerable prop-
erty with which to make himself and wife comfortable in
their reclining years. Mr. David Wilcox d. June 16, 1871.
Mrs. Anna (Brainerd) Wilcox d. July 7, 1876. They both
died in Shelby.

i. WiLLET, b. Sept. 23, 1821, in Rush, N. Y. He lived on Section
1 of the land given him by his father, which he has
greatly improved, and supplements his work upon the farm
by working at the carpenter's trade, which he learned of
his father. He is gi'eatly respected by every one, strictly
honest in his dealings, and temperate in his habits, — thus
well prepared to enjoy his declining years. He m., Feb. 1,
1848, Mary Ann Hughes, b. June 22, 1831. She died June
10, 1854. He m. (2), Jan. 9, 1861, Mary E. VanHorn, b.
Nov. 22. 1842. Two children by each marriage. 1. Lavill,

2 of his father's farm, where he lived till his death. He
was universally respected for his uprightness of character,
following closely in the footsteps of his father as a man of
honor and integrity. His widow lived upon the home-
stead. He died Dee. 6, 1885. Ch.: 1. E. R., b. July 25,
1857; m., Aug. 11, 1878, Malta V. Preston, b. Aug. 5, 1859.
He lived upon his father's farm many years, afterward
was a successful teacher, being principal of Washington
Union School. He resided in the village and held many
positions of trust and honor, viz: worshipful master of
Macomb Lodge, No. 64, A. F. and A. M.; Worthy Master of
Washington Grange. No. 103, P. of H. ; Commander of
Mutual Tent, No. 393, Knights of the Maccabees. He was
superintendent of Washington Union Sunday-school. He
was also a member of Romeo Commandery, Knights Tem-
plar. Ch.: i. Gertie M., b. July 8, 1881. ii. Ernest
A., b. Jan. 22, 1883. 2. George L., b. Aug. 13, 1861.
He was a machinist by trade, but went to sea when 21
years of age and has not been heard from since.

Portsmouth, Ohio, where he was settled from 1828 to 1836,
