Mich.

He graduated from Fenton Seminary, Fentou, Mich., June
18, 1875, and from Michigan State Normal School, June
27, 1876; from Columbus Medical College, March 4,
1881 ; was five years Professor of Science in Fenton Semi-
nary, and in the Central Michigan Normal School.

He was author of a work on Physiology, Physics, Zoology,
Chemistry, and a key to Eobinson's New Elementary Al-
gebra. He was a large contributor to medical journals,
and has the reputation of being the best surgeon in
northern Michigan, and is trying hard to overtake his
illustrious namesake. Prof. D. Brainerd, a great surgeon
of Eush Medical College. He built a hospital at Alma,

is called the Brainerd Surgical Hospital. He was a mem-
ber of the Baptist Church, and an active worker. He was
a platform speaker, speaking upon temperance, science,

pal clergyman. Dr. Elias Bond Whitlock was son of Elias
Whitlock of New Jersey and his wife, Mary Johnson, of
Delaware, and he was son of John Whitlock of New York.
Mary Lavinia Brand was dau. of Joseph C. Brand of
Kentucky and his wife, Lavinia Talbott, of Virginia, and
he was son of John Brand of Virginia.
He was a lawyer and politician in Springfield, but afterwards
in Chicago, 111. Mrs. Susan Lamb (Brainerd) Whitlock
d. Oct. 31, 1892, ae. 18 yrs., 8 mos., 18 ds. She died four
months after marriage. Many friends of the deceased
attended the services for a farewell to their loved one,
whose young life was so beautiful and whose prospects were
so great. A pathetic feature of the service was that the
rites consigning her to the grave were administered by the
three clergymen who, only four months previously, had
