Sept. 30, 1776, signed by said Wheler and Ezekiel Knoulton, stating that said
Knoulton was called upon to take command of a comi)any of militia in Col.
Dike's regt. stationed at Dorchester; that David McClallan was appointed
and commissioned as Ensign in said company but signified his unwilluigness
to serve ; that said Wheler who was qualified and had served in that capacity
was chosen in his place ; and asking that said Wheler be commissioned ;
ordered in Council Oct. 10, 1776, that a commission be is.sued to David
McClallan [the above is probably a mistake, as the Council Records show that
