STATE BOARD OF CHARITIES.— The Capitol, Albany. A con-
stitutional body composed of twelve commissioners, whose duties are denned
by the Constitution of 1895. Maintains a general supervision over all institu-
tions and societies of a charitable or correctional character in receipt of
public moneys, except hospitals for the insane and reformatories in which
men convicted of felony are confined; to approve or not to approve the In-
corporation of such institutions; to investigate the condition of the poor seek-
ing relief; to administer the laws providing for the care, support and re-
moval of the State and alien paupers; to collect statistical information con-

STATE CHARITIES AID ASSOCIATION, THE.-Office, 105 E.

State, county, city and town charitable institutions and promotes the improve-
ment of all public charity. Maintains an agency for "after care" of persons
discharged as recovered from the State hospitals, for the assistance of per-
sons who seem to be in danger of becoming insane, and for the prevention
of insanity. Provides for placing-out children in family homes. Provides
situations at housework for destitute mothers. Organizes committees for the
prevention of tuberculosis in New York State outside of New York City. Pro-
motes the establishment of tuberculosis hospitals and dispensaries, the regis-
tration of tuberculosis patients, and the sanitary supervision of households
