Campy Cob

luie's Creek

Editor

Mollie Sims Cheek

Foreword

E of the staff hope tliat in turning
the pages of the 1958 Pine Burr
after your departure from Camp-
bell, you will smile, or perhaps
chuckle, as you are reminded of the many pleasant
experiences that you had in classes, clubs, sports,
religious activities, and dramatic or musical pro-
grams while you were here. The staff has burned
much midnight oil to give you this souvenir of
your life at Campbell.

May this twenty-third edition remind you of
the good fellowship and co-operation of our stu-
dents and our faculty. May Campbell's moral
standards and ideals continue to be yours, and
may we all continue bound to her and to each other
by her golden chain of Christian friendliness and
good will.

N the name of tlie student body and faculty, Pine Burr salutes tliis enthusi-
astic interpreter of tlic dreams, decisions, and deeds of our America. A
sympathetic and effective teacher, he replenishes his store of ideas by ever
[jursuing the role of a student. His long experience in the field of educa-
tion has equijjped him as a philosopher who views the future of his native
North Carolina and the South with optimism.

He is a loyal su])porter of all college and church activities. A devoted husband
and father, he evidences a constant concern for the welfare of his kinfolk. His interests
extend from the classroom to the garden, the woods, the coastal waters.

Because of his friendly helpfulness and faithful dedication to our connnon task,
Pine Burr counts it a privilege to honor Professor G. A. Tripj). May his service to
Campbell College long continue !

ROBERT POWELL HOLDING, B.A., LL.B., LL.D.

1896 - 1957

MASTER builder whose vision and genius led to the molding in thirty-two
hamlets and towns in eastern North Carolina the State's second largest bank-
ing system.

A civic leader and champion of the cause of public and private schools,
distinguished for his long service as trustee of Wake Forest College, his
alma mater, and more recently for his dynamic leadership as member of the Board of
Trustees of Campbell College.

An honored father, who with his devoted wife, still living, shared the joy of giving
to society three fine sons, Robert, Lewis, and Frank, now jointly dedicated to tiie per-
petuation and fulfillment of his life's dreams.

Above all, an humble servant of God and his fellowman, who quictlv without ostenta-
tion went about doing good.

ONTINUING in the footsteps
of his founder father. Presi-
dent Leslie H. Campbell has
devoted his life to helping
young people prepare for better tomorrows.

A man of great strengtli, he stands firm
under tlie many burdens that he carries for
his associates and for the, students who come
to him for help. His load is lightened bv his
rich sense of humor and by his warm love for
liuman beings. A man of broad interests, he
is equally at home applauding a symphony,
swinging a 9-iron, or cheering the Camels to
another basketball championship.

We of the class of 1958 will remember him
as the man who of all living men most nearly
embodies the traditions and Christian ideals
of Campbell College.

DEAN A. R. BURKOT

KRVING on both tlie faculty
and the administration is a man
whom everyone from the newest
freshman to the President ad-
mires, Dean A. R. Burkot. Dean Burkot's
two decades of service have been an invaluable
contribution to the progress of Campbell
College.

Altliough the Dean's often noted ability to
remember names and faces is a natural gift,
it is a gift brought to perfection by his keen
interest in people. A respecter of his fellow-
man, he is never too busy to help a student
solve any problem.

We shall always remember this versatile
counselor and administrator as a loyal sup-
porter of the church, as a man devoted to
his family, and as a beloved teacher and
friend.
