CONSTITUTION,



ARTICLE I.

NAME.



This organization shall be known as the
Woman's Branch of the New Jersey Historical
Society.

ARTICLE II.

OBJECT.

Its object shall be to discover, procure and pre-
serve whatever relates to any department of the
history of New Jersey, natural, civil, literary or
ecclesiastical, and generally of other portions of
the United States, and to increase the member-
ship of the Societ3\

ARTICLE III.

MEMBERS AND THEIR EI^ECTIGN.

The organization shall consist of all the women
patrons, life and contributing members of the



New Jersey Historical Society, and such other
women as shall be elected by a majority vote of
the Board of Managers present at any meeting,
and shall be known as Associate Members of the
Woman's Branch of the New Jersey Historical
Society.

ARTICLE IV.

DUES.

Each person becoming a member of this organ-
ization shall pay annually to the Treasurer the
sum of Two Dollars on the first day of January,
first payment to be made before their names are
enrolled as a member, provided nevertheless that
all members of the New Jersey Historical Society
shall be exempt from annual dues,

ARTICLE V.

OFFICKRS,

The officers shall be members of the New Jersey
Historical Society, and shall be a President, First
and Second Vice-President, Corresponding Sec-
retary, Recording Secretary, and Treasurer.

ARTICLE VI.

BISECTION.

The Officers and Board of Management shall be
elected by ballot at the Annual Meeting to be
held on the second Wednesday of October each
year, which election shall be reported to the next
Monthly Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the
New Jersey Historical Society, for their confirma-
tion, and in case of the non-confirmation, then a
new election shall be made within sixty days
after such non-confirmation ; and until an elect-
ion is confirmed, the Board of Management shall
fill the offices. All vacancies to be filled by
the Board until the next Annual Meeting.



ARTICLE VII.

BOARD OF MANAGEMENT.

The Board of Management shall consist of the
above-named officers, and at least one member
from each County in the State, but it shall not
exceed thirty-six (36) members. Eight (8)mem-
bers shall constitute a quorum to transact business.



ARTICLE VIII

MEETINGS.

Sec. I . The Annual Meeting shall be held on
the second Wednesday of October in each year.

Sec. 2. Monthly Meetings shall be held on
the first Wednesday of each month, and such
other special meeting as may be called by the
President or on the written application of Five
Members of the Board of Management.

ARTICLE IX.

DUTIES OF OFFICERS.

President.

Sec. I. The President, one of the Vice-Presi-
dents or Chairwoman pro tem. shall preside at all
meetings. The President shall appoint all Com-
mittees, and shall exercise and maintain a general
supervision over the affairs of the Branch, see
that its objects as prescribed by the Constitution
and By-Laws are carried out and take an active
interest in all that pertains to the welfare of the
New Jersey Historical Society. The Vice-Pres-
idents in their order shall in the absence or disa-
bility of the President, perform the duties of that
officer.

Corresponding Secretary.

Sec. 2. The Corresponding Secretary shall
perform all the duties usually required of such
officer, and especially to correspond and commu-
nicate with such persons who may help carry out
the objects of this organization.

Recording Secretary.

Sec. 3. The Recording Secretary shall have
charge of the records of this organization, and
keep correct records of its proceedings in a book
to be kept in the Library of the New Jersey His-
torical Society. She shall give notice to the sev-
eral Officers, Board of Management or Commit-
tees, of all votes, orders, resolves and proceedings
of the Branch affecting them. She shall send a
notice of the time and place of each meeting,
seven days in advance. Special meetings may
be called at a shorter notice if the object is stated
in the call.

Treasurer.

Sec. 4. The Treasurer shall collect all the
funds of the Branch and as often as the funds
shall amount to twenty-five dollars they shall be
deposited in some bank (approved by the Board

of Management) to the credit of the Woman's
Branch of the New Jersey Historical Society, and
shall be drawn thence, on the checks of the
Treasurer, countersigned by the President or
Vice-President. Out of these funds she shall pay
such sums as may be ordered by the Board of
Management, or by any committee from the
funds in their care respectively. And in the
months of January, April, July and October of
each year to pay to the Treasurer of the New
Jersey Historical Society the net balance of cash
on hand(reserving the sum of twenty-five dollars
for the current expenses)and furnish a Statement
of their receipts and disbursements.

In case of the temporary disability of the
Treasurer, the Board of Management may ap-
point a Treasurer pro tem.

ARTICLE X.

This Constitution may be altered or amended
by an affirmative vote of two-thirds of the mem-
bers present at anj^ meeting of the organization,
provided the same shall have been proposed in
writing at least one month previous to such meet-

ing. and such alteration or amendment shall not
take effect unless approved by the Board of Trus-
tees of the New Jersey Historical Society.



ARTICLE XI.

This Constitution shall take effect when the
same shall have been approved by the Board of
Trustees of the New Jersey Historical Society.

BY-LAWS,



ORDER OF BUSINESS.

Sec. I. At the meeting of the Board of Man-
agement the following shall be the Order of
Business:

1. Roll Call.

2 . Reading the Minutes of last meeting.

3. Report of Treasurer.

4. Report of Recording Secretary.

5. Report of Corresponding Secretary.

6. Report of Committees.

7. Nomination of New Members.

8. Miscellaneous Business.

This order of business may be dispensed with,
or altered by a majority of members present and
voting.

AT THE ANNUAL MEETING.

1 . Reading of the last Annual Minutes.

2. Report of the Recording Secretary.

3. Report of the Corresponding Secretary.

4. Report of the Treasurer.

5. Report of the Board of Management by the

President.

6. Election of Officers and Board of Management

7. Miscellaneous Business.

Sec. 2. There shall be five Standing Com-
mittees of three or more members each on Finance,
Membership, Genealogy, Library and Museum,
to perform such duties as shall be delegated to
them.

Sec. 3. These By-Laws may be altered by the
Board of Management, provided one month's
notice be given and stating the proposed
alteration.
