a border of ivy leaves within which the background repre-
sents, in very low relief, the school building, over which is
placed a portrait in high relief within a wreath of laurel and
the words benjamin delamater southerland, i 829-1 905.

A MARBLE tablet, 34 inches wide by 153^2 inches high, at
the top of which, in the centre, is the seal used on the Don-
gan Charter, spreading from which a grape vine border in
very low relief surrounds the whole tablet, on which is the
following

Bronze tablet, 4}/^ feet by 5 feet, on which the subject
is shown in high reUef in centre, close to a tethered horse
which history tells he was about to mount when mortally
wounded. In the background, in very low relief, is repre-
sented the old "Carpenter's Inn" still in existence in 191 1
near the school building. Below the modeled figures, in a
panel, is the following:

INSCRIPTION

IN MEMORY OF GENERAL NATHANIEL WOODHULL,

PRESIDENT OF THE PROVINCIAL CONGRESS

OF NEW YORK IN 1 775,

WHO ON AUGUST 28 1 776 WAS CRUELLY WOUNDED

BY THE ENEMY AT JAMAICA WHILE COOPERATING

WITH WASHINGTON ON LONG ISLAND.

HE DIED A PRISONER AT NEW UTRECHT, SEPTEMBER 20 1 776.

CITIZEN — SOLDIER — PATRIOT OF THE REVOLUTION
