PREFACE

O INCE the publication of the Tenth Catalogue of Psi Upsilon, in
*^ 1888, four Chapters and nearly three thousand members have
been added to the rolls of the Fraternity, The present Catalogue,
omitting biographical matter, records the names, chapters, classes,
symbols, and degrees of members, the occupations and addresses of
the living and the dates of death of the deceased. Where members
have belonged to more than one chapter during their undergraduate
period, cross references are made in the body of the book, but in the
indexes only the chapter of latest membership is indicated. Those
who were never attached to the institution at which they attained
chapter membership are separated from the class lists by a dash.
The asterisk denotes death. Discarded names are enclosed in
brackets. Initial letters not followed by periods are not abbre-
viations.

Information for the Catalogue was derived in the first instance
from the Chapters. Whenever such information was incomplete,
or apparently uncertain, efforts were made to secure correct infor-
mation by correspondence with the members themselves, or with
members of their families, classmates, college registrars, friends or
business associates, or by reference to the latest college cata-
logues. After the Chapter lists were in galley -proof they were
submitted to the chapters for correction, and again in page-proof,
and were subsequently read by graduate members of the several
chapters before printing. In all cases the last known address of
living members is given. Where differences appear between the
Chapter lists and the indexes, the indexes contain the later infor-
mation. Changes and corrections have been noted in the Appen-
dix down to March 24, 1902. Several names omitted from the
preceding Catalogue have been included in the present edition.
The names of members initiated since June, 1901, are contained
in the Appendix but not in the indexes.

Within the past four years Samuel Goodale and Sterling
Goodale Hadley, two of the seven Founders of Psi Upsilon, have
passed away. It is a matter of exceptional interest that two
of the Founders still survive, and to them this book is dedicated
with grateful and reverent regard.
