which he held of James de Scures in the manor of Theddene
paying to the said James de Scures an annual quit-rent of 10s.

de Thuddene, to the Prior and Canons of Seleburne, in free alms,
of one "helva" of his land in the field called la Dune, which
extends to the way leading to the pasture of the said Prior on S.,
and between the land of John Goze on N. ; and also of 3 acres of
his land in Thuddene, of which one lies near the land of Adam de
la Beche and extends to the land of the said Prior called Vifa-
kere ; one lies in the field called Tademeresfeld ; half an acre in
the same field extending to Eadmundesdelle ; one " owrdmel " lies
near the way leading from la Beche to the wood of the Prior,
and one " hwrdmel " lies between the land of the said Adam de la

Prior and Canons of Seleburne, in perpetual alms, of sixpence of
annual rent in the village of Thetdene, issuing from a croft which
he gave to John le Baupeyne of Awoltune with Alice his daughter
in marriage dowry, which lies before the gate of the late Geoffrey
Purchaz and the land of the Prior of Seleburne to the N., and
the land of Petronilla de Thetdene called Stock wode, and that of
Will. Niweman called Sevedellesfeld.

to the Prior and Canons of Seleburne, in pure alms, for the office
of precentor of the said church, of all his messuage which was
formerly Herbert's, son of Hugh de Bunteford, in the street called
Baststrette, after the death of himself and his wife Maud, but
giving seisin at once, so that he and his wife shall hold it of the
said Prior and Canons ; paying an annual quit-rent of 6s. to the
chief lord.

[c. 1250-60.] Grant from Adam son of Saveric the Canon of
Boseham, to Peter son of Seman of Teddene, for the sum of four
marks, of 10 J acres of land and two acres of wood, which the said
Adam had by the gift of the said Savaric in Teddene, viz., the
little croft with the whole curtilage lying between the highway
and the messuage of the said Seman, which croft holds 3^ acres,
and all the land called Merefurlange, and the whole quarantene
below Merefurlange up to Four Acres, which quarantene is called
Fitheledel ; and 2 acres of wood in Frithewode below Longa-
hamme ; with pasture for 1 horse, 4 oxen and 40 sheep ; rendering
annually to the grantor one pair of gloves or Id., and to the lord
of the fee 3s.

gift of the said Laurence; and also of \2d. of annual rent from the
same land formerly paid by the said Roger to the said Laurence.

virgate of land in Theddene which Andrew de Heyges held of the
grantor's tenement in Theddene, and which rents he is accustomed
to pay ; and of all his right in the said messuage and land ; pro-
vided that the said Prior and Canons allow to him 4s. Qd. in the
payment of 9s. Qd. of annual rent which he is bound to pay to
them.

to the Prior and Canons of Seleburne, in pure alms, of 3 acres of
arable land and half an acre of "bruz" in Theddene; of which
2 acres lie " en la Leye " in the field called la Dune, between the
grantor's land and that of the Lady Petronilla widow of the late
Andrew de Heyges, half an acre called la Forehelve, lies near the
land of Henry le Nyueman at la Stonie Strete ; half an acre lies
in the field le Westfelde, near le Forehelve of the said Petronilla,
and extends from the land of Wyvelrode to la Bhuccocke ; and
the half acre of bruz lies in the same dune.

Theddene, of which two lie in Northfelde next le Blakehegge on
both sides, one in the same field above la Marlinsdelle extending
to the land of the Lady Petronilla of Theddene, one in the same
field called Shortacre which extends to the wood of Bulstede,
3 acres in Westfelde, between the grantor's laud and that of the
said Petronilla which extend to Clivecroft, one acre in the same
furlong next to the hedge called Dudevinestru excepting one
" helva," two acres in la Snode between the land of Rich. Waleys
and the grantor's land, being part of the latter's five acres, and 2
acres in the same field between his land and that of the aforesaid
Petronilla, extending to the king's street (" regiam stratam "),
and also 2 acres of wood in Fulcrofteswude ; with pasture for 4
oxen and 40 sheep ; paying an annual quit-rent of 3 shillings.

Prior and Canons had by the gift of her late husband.

Walensis of Thenden, the whole tenement for ever which they
held in Thenden by the gift of Peter Seyman, at an annual rent
of six shillings.

Indenture by which Henry le Rus of Thundene and Robert

his son grant, release and quit-claim, to Sir Richard the Prior and
the Convent of Seleburne, in free alms, all their right in the whole
tenement and lands in Thundene, which they hold of the said
Prior and Convent ; in return for which the latter covenant to
give them yearly 2 quarters of wheat, 2 quarters of barley, 5
shillings, a sufficient house with a curtilage at la Wyke, and 2
cartloads of wood, and 1 cartload of forage, for the term of their
lives, with the half of the corn and money to Richard de Thun-
dene, the son of the said Robert le Rus, should he survive the
said Henry and Robert ; with a further allowance to the said
Henry daily during his life of one small loaf of the convent bread,
and another of the second bread of the weight of 50s., and one
flagon of the second beer, with pottage and " conpanagio " [sops of
bread.]

[c. 1280-90.] Indenture (not dated) by which Richard the
Prior and the Convent of Seleburne grant to Nicholas de Thundene
for ever two crofts, of which one is called Malderude, and the
other formerly belonged to Alice le Walays in Thundene, paying
an annual quit-rent of 8d,, in exchange for a croft called Cobal-
pirke, near the land of the late Henry Rufus.

Nicholas Wyard, Ralph de Heghes, Will, de Achangre, Robert
Marescall de la Wyke, Will. Robert de la Rode. [A 10.]

Release from Robert le Neghebor, son and heir of Adhelwyn le
Neghebor of Thundene, to the Prior and Canons of Seleburne, in
free alms, of all his right in all the lands, gardens and tenements,
which the said Adhelwyn, his father, held in Thundene.

Indenture by which Prior Walter and the Canons of Seleburne
grant to Henry Wyard and Alice his wife, and their heirs, common
pasture for all their beasts, except pigs and goats, in the field lying
between la Helboghe de la Snode up to la Hache towards Aultone,
and from la Hache by the highway to the corner of la Puttecrof te,
belonging to the said Prior, and along the said croft, on the north,
to the croft of John de Theddene, called Glanekerescrofte, and
along the said croft to la Pike of the said croft which abuts west-
ward, and from la Pike to la Helboghe de la Snode aforesaid,
which is at the end of the path of Bideldone ; in exchange for a
release from the said Henry and Alice of all their right in 16
acres of land in Theddene, above la Wyke, and in the common
pasture above la Bideldone.
