HOW TO USE THE DIAL TELEPHONE

Each time you call a number remove the receiver, listen for dial tone. This is
a steady hum and indicates the line is ready for you to dial the number. Make sure
you have the correct number for the party you are calling. If you make a mistake,
hang up the receiver for a few seconds and try again. After dialing the seven digit
number, you will hear the ring-back tone which indicates the number is ringing, or
you will hear the busy tone — buzz, buzz, buzz — which means the number you have
called is busy. If busy, hang up the receiver and try again in a few minutes.

TO DIAL ON A PARTY LINE

USE OF PARTY AND RURAL LINES

When dialing from a party or rural line it is pos-
sible that someone else may be using the line. If
you hear a conversation when lifting the receiver
the line is being used. Replace the receiver and
try again later.

In case you do not hear the dial tone and no
one seems to be using the line, inquire whether the
line Is in use. If there seems to be no one on the
line replace your receiver for a few seconds. Then

remove it and the dial tone should be heard.
ANSWER YOUR TELEPHONE PROMPTLY
Courtesy to the calling parties requires that you

WHEN THROUGH TALKING

Hang up your receiver so that your line will be
disconnected and you will be able to make or re-
ceive other calls. If you wish to mal<e several calls
in succession hang up the receiver for a few sec-
onds after each call.

If you desire to call a party on your line dial "55" and the parties listed tele-
phone number, (a total of 9 digits). When you hear busy tone hang up the receiver,
the telei^one of the party you have called wUl ring. Wait 30 seconds, lift your re-
ceiver and you may talk. When the party you have called answers they will get dial
tone of short duration. If no one answers, then replace it.
