Nepita, Moore, I. anila, Moore (=lydia, var. Wkr.), 3. conferta, Wkr.,
(=signata, Wkr.); this action constituted leucotelus, Wkr., (= dilecta,
Wkr.) the type of the genus Pitane, Wkr. Pitane was described from a
<5, and although the sex of dilecta is not mentioned, it is obvious from the
description that the type was a tf.

Antenna ($) three times as long as the forewings, basal joint somewhat
enlarged ; yellowish, with a brown streak above throughout their length.
Palpi porrect, slender, with a long dependent fringe of hairs below, and
a short recumbent fringe above ; blackish, the upper surface tinged with
yellowish. Head hairy, the hairs mixed yellowish and brown above
between the closely approximate eyes. Thorax brown, mixed with black
and coppery scales. Forewings'. ground-colour pale straw-yellow,
thickly sprinkled with purplish brown scales ; a short pale yellow dash
from the base close to the costa ; a pale yellow transverse fascia slightly
beyond the middle, wider on the dorsum than on the costa, is somewhat
narrowed on the space occupied by the discal cell ; this is preceded and
followed by narrow bands of purplish brown scales, the inner one being
preceded and the outer followed by a golden metallic hue which is
continued along the costa to the base, and along the costa and termen to
the apex around the base of the purplish brown cilia. Exp. al. 13 mm.
Hindwings and cilia white, shaded with purplish brown at the apex and
along the outer portion of the costa, with a strong dash of purplish
brown adjacent to the limbus. Abdomen black. Legs whitish, hind tarsal
joints spotted with purplish brown ; hind tibiae clothed with long white
hairs above.

Costa of fore-wings highly arched, apex blunt, hinder margin
rounded, hind-wing with the costal margin long and outwardly
curved, apex round, outer margin very short and evenly curved :

GENUS HERCHTJNDA. nov.

$ Palpi curved, upturned, reaching just above vertex of head,
smooth, third joint half as long as second, thorax hairy, with up-
standing tufts, abdomen hairy, with ridges of hair on the two basal
segments, enormous dorsal tufts on the anal segments, and a rather
long anal tuft, pectus with long tufts of hairs, legs with fringes of long
hairs and stout rather long spurs : hind-wings with a large patch of
thickly packed long hairs on the abdominal margin covering the
lower half of the margin : fore-wing rather short, apex nearly
rectangular, hinder margin rounded : hind-wing with the outer margin
evenly curved.

(J Palpi, head, antennas, and thorax ochreous brown, inner sides of
palpi pale ochreous, a broad bright ochreous band on fore-part
of thorax, abdomen blackish brown ; fore-wings with a pale ochreous
ground colour, so thickly irrorated with brown atoms as to make the
whole of the wing ochreous brown, with the exception of the discal
portions, where the ochreous ground colour is more or less visible,
a black spot above the hinder margin near the angle, and a number
of elongated brown smaller spots around and above it, cilia brown ;
hind-wings blackish brown, with a broad pale ochreous band,
narrowing to the anal angle, which it does not reach, cilia pale
ochreous.

Expanse of wings, 2 inches.

This insect, on which I found Walker's label of Osca guttulosa,
got .inadvertently put as such, in p. 194, No. 2168 ; it has the shape
and appearance of an Avitta but the structure and venation of
Boethantha. Osca guttulosa. Walker, the type of which is in the B. M.,
is the same as Rhodoneura pudicula, Guen., as shown at p. 409,
No. 3118.
