Marriages at Chesterton,

1564 to 1837.



Note. — The earliest volume of the Chesterton registers was carefully
re-bound a few years ago, and many of the leaves strengthened.
It consists of 87 parchment leaves, measuring about 14^ by 5
inches. In a few places the writing is bad, and some parts are
now rather faint, but nowhere illegible. Some of the earlier
years are imperfect; no Baptisms are recorded for 1565, and
1570 to 1572; no Marriages for 1568 to 1572, 1582 and 1584; and
no Burials for 1566, 1567, and 1584. Otherwise the entries run
without interruption to the year 168 1. During the Commonwealth
period Baptisms are regularly recorded, and not Births.

Volume II. is a parchment book in good condition and welt
written, consisting of 86 leaves, measuring about 14^ by 6£ inches.
It contains Marriage entries from 1682 to 1797, Baptisms and
Burials from 1682 to 1792. The bottom of the 47th leaf, about two
inches in depth, has been cut away, thereby losing a few Baptismal
entries of 1722 and 1723, of which traces appear in the margin.

Volume III. is the usual book of printed forms for Banns and
for Marriages ; the entries in both parts of the book extend from
1754 to 1808.

Volume IV. is a parchment book containing at one end
Baptisms from 1793 to 1812, and at the other Burials for the same
period.

Volume V. is a book of printed forms, containing the Marriage
entries from Dec, 1808, to 1812; at the other end of the book
are the Banns entries from 1808 to 1823.

Volume VI. is a book of printed forms, containing the
Marriages from 1813 to 1837.
