Marriages at Carleton Rode,



1560 to 18 I 2.



Note.— The Marriages of Carleton Rode, near Attleborough, are con-
tained in four volumes.
Volume I measures 14 in. by 7| in., and contains thirty-three leaves
of parchment, generally in very good order. This volume contains
the Marriages 1560 to 1637, as well as the Baptism.s 1560 to 1653,
and Burials 1560 to 1650.
Volume II measures 12J in. by 8§ in., and contains forty-two parch-
ment leaves. In it are recorded the Marriages 1654 to 1706, but
it is deficient 1638 to 1653 inclusive. It also contains Baptisms
and Burials from 1654 to about 1706.
Volume III contains fifty-eight leaves, and contains the Marriages

from 1710 to 1754, with Baptisms and Burials 1710 to 1797.
Volume IV contains Baptisms and Burials only, from c. 1796 to
1812; about a dozen leaves have been cut away which possibly
contained the missing Marriages 1802 to 1812.
Volume V is the usual book of printed forms, and contains the

Marriages 1754 to 1S02.
These Marriages have been most obligingly transcribed from the
original Register by W. T. Bensly, Esq., LL.D., F.S.A., assisted
by the Rev. A. J. Back, Rector of Carleton Rode, by whose per-
mission they are now printed. The entries have been carefully
collated with the original books by Mr. Frederic Johnson, of
Norwich.
