To dial another party on your line, it is necessarj- to
dial a special code number instead of the number listed
in the telephone directory. If you wish to know who else
is on your line, this information may be secured by dial-
ing 114. If you know the listed names and numbers of
others on your line, then proceed as follows:

1. If you are a two-party subscriber, it is only necessary
to dial code number 1191.

2. If you are a four-party subscriber, dial 114, Repair
Service, and give your telephone number as well as
the telephone number of the party desired on your
line. You will be given the proper code number to
dial. Hang up your receiver for a few seconds, then
remove it, and dial this code number.

Always after you have dialed the proper code number
hang up your receiver. Your bell, as well as that of the
party you dialed, will ring at brief intervals until the
called party answers. When your bell stops ringing, re-
move your receiver and talk to the party answering.

If your bell does not stop ringing in from one to two
minutes, it indicates that there is no one to answer the
called telephone. You should then stop your bell and clear
the connection by removing your receiver for a few sec-
onds and then replacing it.

CALLS TO RURAL SUBSCRIBERS
To secure a rural subscriber from a dial telephone,
dial the number as listed in the directory. An operator
will answer and request the number you are calling. Re-
peat the number to her and she will complete the con-
nection.

How to Make Out^of^Town Calls

Decide first whether the lower priced "Station- te-
station'* service can be used or whether *Terson-to-
Person" service is necessary. To help you decide
these calls are explained below.

#

How to Place the Call

STATION-TO-STATION CALLS
(From One Telephone to Another)

A station-to-station call is one on which you
agree to talk to anyone who answers at the called
telephone.

A call filed for a private branch exchange ex-
tension station or a hotel room number takes the
person-to-person classification.

To place a station-to-station call, give the oper-
ator —

First — The name of the place you are calling.

Second — The telephone number you are calling
(if known) or address name of called station,
if the telephone number is not known. For
example: John Doe's Residence — 425 Main
Street.

Third — Hold the line when requested to do so.

A three-minute connection is allowed before
''overtime" charges begin if the initial rate ex-
ceeds 25 cents. If less than 25 cents, a 5 minute
connection is allowed.

FEATURES OF STATION-TO-STATION

CALLS

1. The rates are less than on person-to-person
calls.

2. They are completed more quickly.

3. There are no report charges on Station-to-
Station calls, except in the case of collect calls
not completed because of the refusal of the
called party to accept the charges.

5. Rates are reduced after 7 P. M. and further
reduced after 8:30 P. M. if the initial day
station-to-station rate exceeds 35 cents. The
time of day at the originating point when con-
versation starts determines whether the day,
evening, or night rate applies.

6. Charges begin when the called telephone is
answered.

6. Charges may be reversed without any change
in rate when the rate is 25 cents or more. A

slight additional charge is made when the in-
itial rate is less than 25 cents.

PERSON-TO-PERSON CALLS

(From One Person to Another)

A person-to-person call is one on which you
desire to talk to a particular person or a private
branch exchange extension station. The rate on
a person-to-person call is higher than the rate on
a station-to-station call.

To place a person-to-person call give the oper-
ator:

First — The name of the place you are calling.

Second — Telephone number of the called station
(if known) or the address of the called station
if the telephone number is not known.

Third — The name of the person you are calling.

Fourth — Hold the line when requested to do so.

The charges can be reversed.

A three-minute conversation is allowed before
"overtime" charges begin.

If the called telephone is reached but the call
cannot be completed because the person desired
is not available and cannot be reached elsewhere,
a nominal report charge is made to compensate
the Telephone Company for the work done on the
call.

COLLECT CALLS

If the charges on the call you are placing are
to be paid at the distant telephone, you should tell
the operator when filing the call that it is a "col-
lect" call. The charges, if accepted by the sub-
scriber at the distant telephone, will be billed to
that telephone. If the charge is not accepted at
the distant telephone and the call is not completed,
you will be billed with the report charge.

For further information regarding classes of
service and rates — call "Long Distance.'

THERE ARE two general classes of Long Distance calls, Station-to-Station and Person-to-Person.
Rates for Station-to-Station calls are lower than rates for Person-to-Person calls. Station-to-Station
rates are further reduced during certain evening and night hours. Person-to-Person Service includes
Appointment and Messenger calls. If you can give the telephone number of the distant subscriber on any
class of call, your call can be handled more promptly.

The rates given below are for the initial period. An initial period of 5 minutes is allowed on Station-to-Station calls
where the rate is 25 cents or less. Where the rate is more than 25 cents the initial period is 3 minutes on all classes
of calls. Rates to other points may be obtained bv calling "Long Distance." On each long distance message for which
the charge is from $.50 to $.99, the federal tax is $.10; where the charge is from $1.00 to $1.99, the tax is |.15; where
the charge is $2.00 or more, the tax is $.20.

Save Mone}'

on your

Out^of^Tovjn

Calls

By using station-to-station
long distance service you can
make a substantial saving on
your out-of-town calls.

A station-to-station call is
one where you are willing to
talk to whoever answers the
distant telephone. Of course,
after the distant telephone
answers, you may, if you
wish, ask for some particular
person, but the charges on
all station-to-station calls be-
gin when the distant tele-
phone answers.

The charges for day sta-
tion-to-station service are ap-
proximately 2 5 % lower than
for person-to-person service,
and between 7 and 8:30 in
the evening, the station-to-
station rate is about one-
fourth less than the day sta-
tion-to-station rate. After
8:30 P.M., until 4:30 A.M.,
the station-to-station rate is
reduced to about one-half
the day station-to-station
rate.
