but one son, itebert Strong Clark, b tag 4 1873, who. after his father's
death, removed to New York City, taking his mother with him.

ii. Jalrus Emerson Clark was high sheriff of Hampshire county frora 1887
and died in office at the age of nearly seventy-four. T e was a director of
Hampshire Co. national Bank, and trustee of :asthampton Savings Dank, a
Knight Templar and a Mystic Shriner. In his earlier years he was a Select-
man of Southampton, and Fire Chief in -asthampton. 'e was ever a man of
simplicity, integrity and dignity, a true friend, and one greatly beloved. His
death was sudden, occurring on the street in Northampton, from heart failure. d _ AllJJ

Edmund trong" -"earl following the trade of his f other, carried on
the cloth-dreasinp and voo len mill on Greet mountain brook until 1837. He
removed for a time with his family to Tolland, Conn, and then to Manchester,
onn. In 1840 he moved to estfield, uSaaa. and in 1845 to «lworth, is.,
where he became a farmer. He finally removed to Hockton, 111. in 1854, and
continued farming until his death.

I ia widow continued to live at Rockton eith her son, but after 1874,
ahen her daughter removed to Toledo, Ohio, she aade her home with her.

tiasa. Sept 13 1863; no child. "fter his death his widow became a teacher,
continuing for ovsr 25 years in that vocation, and highly valued as such, doinp
her full share to mould many lives arght, & beautiful example of Christian
faith and devotion. In 1892 she married L. Bates i.orton, a widower of
'eatfield, KSase., a farmer, residing at 96 Union street. Bo child. In her
later years, with failing health, iira. lorton showed the sweet grace of
patient resignation to the 3ivine will.

Kaeraon 6 Searl was a prosperous faraer of i orwich Hill, Huntington,
'dB.se, bout 1872 he purchased a fine fara of three hundred acres in

Ivorthaapton, and resided there until his death. (Far convenience he used the
^asthaapton post office). After 1894 the oldest son carried on the fara, and
the youngest son aade a business of selling and distributing the ailk produced.



vii. Charles Payson ' Searle was a graduate of Amherst College in 1876. In
190S he bought a small f^ra in Korthaapton, (422 Bridge St. near the Conn. River)
where he resides. His wife was born in Athena, Vt. Jan 10 1855; x^o child.

He afterwards established the "Northampton Free Press', "Ilolyoke Transcript' ,
"New England Homestead and "Among the Clouds 1 , the latter at ..t.^eshington,
. . a summer journal only. In 1866 he published the 'Connecticut Valley

Guide". In 1888 he visited London, .jigland and remained for some years.

His wife was the daughter of 3eth Hunt of Northampton.

Susan P.dau. of John Allen of Newton, Mass. he resided there and was Court
stenographer for Plymouth county; he had 2 sons - Frank A Her., b uec 26 188b
at Newton; and Philip Hunt, b Sept 24 1337. Hie wife died Dec 21 1893.
2. George Mansfield, b Northampton, Nov 23 186b, d Feb 11 1868; 3. Grace
Uartyn, b Springfield Apr 20 1870; 4. J-enry i<iartyn jr. b Springfield Sept.

Bart let t farmer, lived in Springfield until 1840, then in



Southampton. in his last years it became necessary to place him in the State
Hospital at i orthampton, where he died, aged 55 years. He had survived his
wife but a single month.

character end ability; she was a power for good in the eonaunity, a real friend
to the unfortunate, loved and respected by all who knew her.

and removed to 3 t. Petersburg, Florida, where he died Jan 16 1911. :ihe
